How Rollup fits into your app

One context layer supports persistent understanding, dynamic questions, and local retrieval.

The SDK builds on-device understanding and a local media index. Search uses that index on the device. Derived representations can support Profile and Query through the Rollup context service.

Choose the operation for the task#

profile()

Reads a persistent, incrementally maintained model of the user. Structured, fast, and cacheable, Profile suits frequent personalization without a new inference on every request.

query()

Computes a structured answer for a specific question. Query is dynamic and potentially model-assisted, so it can require more computation than reading Profile.

search()

Performs semantic and metadata retrieval on the device. Search returns local moment and media references the host app is authorized to access.

Execution boundary
This diagram describes data flow, not a fixed model deployment. Rollup may use derived context and privacy-preserving representations in its context service. The full context graph and all reasoning need not run on the device. Original media and the local search index remain local.

The lifecycle#

01. Add the SDK

Rollup lives inside your iOS application and operates under your app’s photo permission.

02. Ask the user

Present Rollup’s disclosure before the system photo permission dialog so the user knows what the integration does.

03. Build context

Rollup organizes the library into moments, reduces redundant media, and incrementally constructs a longitudinal representation.

04. Start personalizing

Use Profile and Query as context becomes available. Search retrieves from the portion of the local library already indexed.

05. Stay current

New photos and changes to existing moments are incorporated incrementally.

Important
Your product should respond to Rollup’s readiness state.
